JOB POST: Seeking Podcast Producers

July 4, 2023

The podcast Change Agents is seeking producers for season four of its series. We are looking for journalists with 1 – 3 years of professional experience who have completed their studies and are in the early stages of their career.  Examples of previous work and references are required.  Audio experience will be looked on favorably, but we are also interested in print or multi-media producers with a strong sense of story.  Applicants should have a strong interest in social justice reporting and hyperlocal media.  Priority consideration will be given to BIPOC producers, but ALL races/ethnicities will be considered.  Training in audio field producing and post- production will be provided.

Producers will be assigned a story and grassroots organization, primarily in communities of color, and will work in tandem to create podcast episodes told through a community lens.  This season will focus on issues affecting individuals and communities impacted by the carceral system and homeownership in Black and Brown communities. Exceptions will be made for those bringing in their own story concepts or who have pre established relationships with a community-based organization.

This is a 16-week training/work-for-hire that will require an average of 10 – 15 hours per week to produce one 15 – 20 - minute episode for the series. Weeks one and two will require a mandatory 20 – 25-hour (4 six hour sessions) orientation built around the specific principles of the Change Agents’ production philosophy.  Training after orientation will consist of weekly 2 - 3 hour in person or virtual labs on a Friday or Saturday. The project stipend is $6000.

Please send a cover letter explaining why you think you would be a good fit, resume and work links to: [email protected]. The  production lab will begin August 4 and conclude November 18, 2024.
